ABOUT JUDGE HIGBEE

Judge Higbee was a graduate of Temple University and Temple University Law School.  She began practicing law in 1976 in Atlantic City and was later appointed as a Judge of the Atlantic County Superior Court in 1993, one of the first women on the NJ Superior Court.  In 2003, Judge Higbee was named one of only three Judges to serve as a Mass Tort Judge in New Jersey and presided over many high-profile cases, most notably involving Vioxx and Accutane.  2005 saw Judge Higbee elevated to the position of Presiding Judge for the Civil Division of the Atlantic County Superior Court.  In 2014 Judge Higbee had the honor of being named to the New Jersey Appellate Division.

She was an invited lecturer at judicial seminars around the country and received numerous accolades including being the first sitting judge to receive the 2013 Robert N. McAllister Award for excellence in the profession of law presented by the Atlantic County Bar Association.  In addition to being a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Judge Higbee devoted much of her time to the development of young lawyers, whether it was her Law Clerks or students in the Mock Trial Competition.

Regretfully, Judge Higbee passed away on January 3, 2017. This scholarship in her name was designed to honor and perpetuate her legacy by providing financial support for college bound Atlantic County high school students who participate in the Atlantic County Mock Trial Competition.
